The Division of Preservation and Access is seeking knowledgeable individuals who would be willing to serve as evaluators of applications for Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions. Preservation Assistance Grants help small and mid-size institutions—such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, town and county records offices, and colleges—improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections. Grants of up to $6,000 are awarded to support preservation assessments, consultations with preservation professionals, staff attendance at preservation workshops, education and training in digital best practices and standards, or the purchase of preservation supplies and storage furniture.
If you are an academic museum professional – curator, collections manager, conservator, or administrator – and are interested in being placed on our roster of potential reviewers, please e-mail to [email protected] by April 25.
We will form panels in early May and will contact you before the end of that month if your expertise is needed for the proposals we receive. Panel service would involve reading approximately 20 five-page applications and the submission (via the NEH web site) of written comments and ratings for each application. This work would take place during June, with comments due by mid-July. For their services, panelists receive a $250 honorarium.
