There’s more to the AASLH Annual Conference than the learning sessions and networking opportunities.
The conference is also an opportunity to see the host city and state. We offer a large number of tours during the conference. You can also extend your stay.
AASLH Annual Conference Tours
There are 19 tours available through this year’s conference.
In keeping with the conference theme of “I, Too, Am America,” there are tours that explore various aspects of identity, including Native, Jewish, Hispanic, Basque, Deaf, and Black history.
Other tours are about architecture, the state’s history of natural resources, art in Boise, military history, and more.
If you can only make one tour, we recommend Removal and Remembrance: Japanese American Incarceration in the Idaho Desert. This tour highlights the experience of Japanese Americans during World War II with a visit to Minidoka National Historic Site. This full-day tour will be offered twice during the conference, once on Wednesday and once on Saturday.
Tours are not included in the Annual Conference registration fee and require preregistration. See descriptions of all the tours on page 16 of the Conference Program.
Extend Your Stay
Situated at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills on the Boise River, Boise is a beacon for those who love the outdoors, history, and culture. The conference can be busy—why not extend your stay to enjoy this unique city?
If you like spending time outdoors, Boise is known for hiking and biking in the foothills. One thing many people don’t realize is that Boise is close to some of the best whitewater rafting in the world.
Boise is also home to a thriving and diverse culinary scene, thanks to its status as a Welcoming City to immigrants and refugees. The city is also home to outstanding coffee shops, breweries, and wineries.
Take advantage of the conference by extending your stay and enjoying time off in one of America’s most unique mid-sized cities!
The early bird registration discount for the conference is available through Friday, July 28. Members receive the largest discount!
