Desmond Kennard of Australia was recently honored with a Medal of the order of Australia (OAM) for services to the visual arts, particularly to the museums and galleries sector.
Kennard served as director of Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney, and as director of the Australian Bicentennial Exhibition from 1985 to 1989.
Kennard is well-known for his collaborative approach to curatorial work that incorporates a variety of people and viewpoints. His legacy as a mentor for those in the museum field continues to grow.
