Have a hot topic that deserves further discussion by you and your history colleagues?
Current Issues Forums, AASLH’s newest Annual Meeting event, are two-hour spaces reserved for key questions that AASLH members should be addressing. Topics can be about anything related to the field: from the concerns of museum workers and the best ways to appeal to millennial donors to cultivating community historians and collecting artifacts as historical moments are happening. AASLH is particularly interested in topics that may have been missed as sessions at the Annual Meeting, but are critical points of discussion for history practitioners.
To propose a Current Issue Forum, send us a short (two paragraphs) description of a topic on which you would be interested in leading in discussion. Please include your contact information. AASLH will send out a Call for Participants for these forums by early August.
Organizers—who propose the topic—get the discussion going by email and conference call several weeks before the conference. When the group gathers in Detroit, the organizer and participants should have already identified core issues and had time to share background documents, call on colleagues, or do additional, light research. The forums in Detroit will move the conversation to a culminating point that organizers can share widely with the field. Forums will have space for ten to fifteen participants.
