April 26 is the 200th birthday of the famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. He designed Central Park in New York City, the grounds of Biltmore Estate, and other well-known gardens and grounds across the United States.
Several of his projects still exist in the vicinity of Buffalo, New York, the location for the 2022 AASLH Annual Meeting. In fact, his work in Buffalo, started in 1868, represents America’s oldest coordinated system of public parks and parkways and one of the largest bodies of work by the master landscape architect.
If you join us at the conference September 14-17, you can visit the following Olmsted creations and more:
- Delaware Park
- Front Park
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Park
- Lincoln Parkway
- Chapin Parkway
- Bidwell Parkway
- Soldier’s Circle
- Colonial Circle
