AASLH is pleased to be working with our colleagues at the U.S. World War One Centennial Commission to promote the WW1 Poppy Program. This is a tangible way to connect the local to the global, to support the work of the Commission across the country, and to help generate funds for state and local history institutions. We are also eager to see how organizations integrate the poppies into innovative programs to mark this important commemoration.
Be sure to sign up for our free History Crash Course: The American Experience in World War I, a webinar created with the OAH. It’s a brief overview of current scholarship on the American experience in World War I and key challenges facing smaller historical organizations seeking to mount exhibits on the war.
As historians, we are always looking for ways to get people engaged history. In 2017, we have an important opportunity to reach out to all Americans on the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I.
I’m proud to serve as a Commissioner of the US World War One Centennial Commission, and I’m particularly excited about our WW1 Poppy Program. This program can help raise revenue for your historical society while raising money for the National WW1 Memorial in Pershing Park, Washington DC.
Please click on ww1cc.org/poppy and order your WW1 Poppy Seed kit. For a donation of $64.99 you get a Poppy Seed kit with 60 packs of seeds in it which you can then distribute for $2 a packet. That second dollar you raise is for your local community and facility. You can use it to enhance your educational programs, support an event or conference, and help highlight your area’s role in WW1.
YOU can help us tell the national WW1 story by showcasing your region or state’s role, and in the process, you can help raise money for your own facility. Together we can honor the millions of Americans who served 100 years ago, while engaging a whole new generation in appreciating their local and national history.
Please join us at ww1cc.org/poppy and help tell the WW1 story!
