The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) offers two conferences in 2022 that share the same theme.
The two conferences allow you to engage in learning and networking in a format that works best for you.
Come to the Annual Conference to gather with others in person, engage in learning sessions in different formats, and attend our unmatched evening events.
Attend the Virtual Conference to save on the cost of travel while hearing from leaders in the field and interacting with others in breakout rooms.
You can attend both conferences because each conference has its own, unique program.
While the programs are different, the theme for each conference is the same. This year the theme is “Right Here, Right Now: The Power of Place.” History is powerfully embedded in our sense of place. At both conferences, we’ll reflect on the spaces we occupy and the stories they tell, as well as the responsibility we have to ensure that the histories we share represent the diversity and complicated narratives of the space.
“The Power of Place” is drawn from one of the five themes that AASLH has identified for the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The in-person Annual Conference will be held in Buffalo, New York, September 14-17. Registration for the Annual Conference opens on Monday, June 6. The preliminary program with session and event information, as well as pricing, will be available Monday.
The online Virtual Conference will be held on November 1-4. The program for this conference will be shared later this year.
