Colorado Humanities, in collaboration with Colorado State University Libraries, the University Press of Colorado, and History Colorado, is pleased to announce a prototype version of the Colorado Encyclopedia is now available at coloradoencyclopedia.org.

photo-1423450822265-fcd97e52ecb5A vetted, mobile-friendly resource, the prototype Colorado Encyclopedia includes articles written and reviewed by the state’s top scholars on hundreds of topics, from individuals and towns to counties, historic sites, cultures, and movements. The Encyclopedia editorial team is led by Dr. William Wei, professor of history at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Editors include Colorado State Historian Patricia Limerick, professor of history at CU-Boulder and director of the Center of the American West, as well as Assistant State Archaeologist Kevin Black and Bancroft Prize-winning historians Anne Hyde and Thomas Andrews.

By September 2016, the Encyclopedia will offer nearly 500 articles, with many available at fourth-, eighth-, and tenth-grade reading levels, as well as thematic Annotated Resource Sets and other resources for educators.

 

Entries wanted

The Colorado Encyclopedia invites anyone with expertise on a Colorado topic to submit ideas and articles to the Encyclopedia by visiting the Contributors page or contacting Editorial Assistant Nick Johnson at [email protected] or (303) 894-7951 x21.

Funding for this first, history-focused phase of the Colorado Encyclopedia has been provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and a History Colorado State Historical Fund grant award.
