AASLH is pleased to share our 2021 Annual Report with the field. Despite another year that was anything but predictable, our community came together in meaningful ways that fostered connection, dialogue, and renewed dedication to the importance of history for all people. We convened an Online Conference and an in-person Annual Meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas; our first non-virtual gathering in two years. We launched a new Community Center where members and nonmembers alike can discuss the issues facing them in their work and network with others around the country. We completed a census of all U.S. history organizations and published a field guide to assist in preparations for the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. We published books on the Civil War and suffrage, and brought new voices and languages to History News. We learned from experts in webinars about creating virtual tours, choosing a collections management system, and celebrating Juneteenth at historic sites.
We couldn’t have done any of it without the dedicated work of our committees, volunteers, donors, and members. Thank you for making last year possible, and we can’t wait to see where 2022 will take us.
