Are you interested in women’s history and how you can better interpret it? When women’s stories are confined to kitchens or needlework exhibits, we miss opportunities to talk about their range of experiences. The National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites (NCWHS) wants to cooperate with AASLH members to change that.
The NCWHS promotes women’s history at historic sites through our own efforts and via partnerships. Check us out at www.ncwhs.org, www.facebook.com/ncwhs, or on Twitter, @ncwhs). We have a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service and partner with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
We are also working with Rebecca Price and Bob Beatty on projects to better promote women’s history through AASLH. For example, does AASLH need a women’s history affinity community? Several AASLH/NCWHS members will be at the AASLH annual meeting in St. Paul to meet with interested conference attendees. There we might draft a statement of purpose and determine expectations for the group, including submitting sessions for the annual meeting. To proceed we need to identify 10 to 15 people to serve two-year terms on an advisory committee that would select its chair. We then submit our statement and the names for approval by the AASLH president and CEO.
