Little Rock, AR

Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock.

Building on the reach and success of last year’s online annual meeting, we are happy to announce that AASLH will have two conferences in the fall, each with distinct experiences. This is our plan for 2021 and future years. The AASLH/Arkansas Museums Association 2021 Annual Meeting will be held in person in Little Rock on September 22-25. The AASLH 2021 Online Conference will be held on October 12-15. The theme of both conferences is Doing History/Doing Justice.

AASLH/AMA 2021 Annual Meeting, September 22-25
The AASLH Program Chair, Michelle Moon, the 2021 Program and Host Committees, and AASLH staff are working to turn the Annual Meeting in Little Rock into a transformative experience. Every attendee will have the opportunity to be a true participant in a rich offering of workshops, tours, in-depth discussions, hands-on experiences, and social events. Days spent onsite with colleagues will include additional plenary events and more shared experiences inside and out of the conference program. Attendees will also be encouraged to visit history institutions and sites in the Little Rock area with colleagues or on their own and to participate in workshops and tours that maximize the history, culture, and places of the host city.

AASLH 2021 Online Conference, October 12-15
The 2021 Online Conference will continue to be an inspirational and informative experience. The online meeting will focus on sessions that allow speakers to share their stories, strategies, and expertise while interacting with participants through the chat function and some breakout rooms. The flexibility of the online format also allows the conference to be more reflective of crucial topics that emerge for the field in the months and weeks before the virtual meeting. Happy hours and discussion groups will also make more use of the Zoom breakout rooms to encourage conversation between participants. This is an opportunity to improve on the successful online 2020 conference and to reach a larger percentage of our members and nonmembers around the country.

More information will be released as we get closer to the conference dates. Look for exciting updates as these new experiences come together as a great learning opportunity for the history field.
